Stretch Ceiling

What Are Stretch Ceilings?

Stretch ceilings are not a new invention or development. In Europe, stretch ceilings are prevalent and are preferred to drywall because of their durability and the ease of installation. Elsewhere, there is a growing demand for them.

Typically, stretch ceilings are made out of a PVC-based stretch material that is first heated and then installed over an existing surface, which requires no prior preparation before installation. Once set, the stretch ceiling maintains its shape indefinitely. It is resistant to both high and low temperatures, humidity and impact, able to absorb pressure on the surface. It is also water-resistant and, consequently, hypoallergenic. Mould, mildew and other microbiomes cannot grow on this surface, even if it was put in an environment that is highly susceptible to this, like pools and spas. Additionally, it is also sound absorbent, making it extremely useful for controlling noise levels in any area.

Stretch ceilings last forever, and they are not made for ceilings alone. They are suitable for a variety of surfaces, and these do not necessarily have to be flat, either. They can be molded, printed and even backlit to fit any kind of design project that you have in mind. Stretch ceilings can even be applied like a large custom-printed wall mural to enhance the general look of the space. This material comes in multiple textures, such as matte, glossy, satin and reflective stretch ceilings.

NOR Renovation Projects

NOR Contractors has worked on both stretch ceilings for commercial and residential applications. Commercial stretch ceilings can be for businesses who want their interiors to stand out with custom wall murals. It can also be for larger structures such as public pools, making use of the humidity resistance and sound absorption qualities of stretch ceilings. Office spaces and lounge areas can also benefit from backlit ceilings to soften the glare of fluorescent lighting, or even provide an artful sculpture made from the PVC-based stretch material.

Residential stretch ceilings, on the other hand, are typically for more personal renovations when the client wants to enhance one or multiple rooms in their home. Low ceilings in apartments can benefit from reflective stretch ceilings to give the apartment the illusion of space and height. Kids rooms, family rooms, and home theatres may look livelier and have more striking designs with custom wall murals that also blend with the general design of the room.
